Ticino, with its Studio sperimentale di elettroacustica founded back in 1954 by Hermann Scherchen in Gravesano, is the birthplace of electronic music in Switzerland. Another national point of attraction was the Swiss Centre for Computer Music (SZCM), founded in 1985 by Bruno Spoerri, Gerald Bennett and Rainer Boesch, three pioneers of Swiss electronic music. In recent years, computer music has been progressively integrated into Music Universities. The Foundation's activities have been reduced to the point of dissolution. The city of Lugano has been chosen as a symbolic place to celebrate this transition.
