Daniele Gatti's arrival at the head of the Orchestra Mozart for Lugano's season-opening is a tribute to one composer who knew how to combine brilliance and popularity.
Mozart is the libertine of the Age of Enlightenment. A cosmopolitan and revolutionary in his music, in which he displayed remarkable skills concealed under surprising ease.
The grandeur of Mozart's theatrical writing, whose comparison with an enthroned Jupiter on the clouds holding thunder and lightning is entirely appropriate, is to be found in the Jupiter Symphony. In the Parisian cultural environment between the two world wars, extremely refined artistic experiences matured.
