German violinist Julia Fischer has received international critical acclaim for her concert and recording successes. She has also been awarded numerous distinctions, including Gramophone magazine's Young Artist of the Year in 2007 and Instrumentalist of the Year at the Midem Classical Awards in 2009. Acclaimed for her original and illuminating interpretations of the classical repertoire, Julia Fischer is also praised for her extraordinary technique. The Financial Times wrote that "she has an incredible technique and the notes are not an end in themselves but a way of expressing the music's truth".

For her comeback to Lugano, Julia Fischer has chosen a programme that achieves a balance between Mozart's style and the technical mastery of Enescu's writing. This Romanian composer is a pivotal figure between the German and French traditions.

She will be accompanied by Yulianna Avdeeva, a Russian pianist born in 1985 and described by the Financial Times as an artist "capable of letting the music breathe". She was the 2010 winner of the prestigious Chopin Competition in Warsaw, becoming the fourth woman to reach the highest step of this competition, won by Martha Argerich in 1965.
