Founded in 1984, the Carmina Quartet immediately gained international recognition by winning international prizes such as the "Paolo Borciani" award (1987). It is since then one of Switzerland's most remarkable ensembles and has been mentored by outstanding musicians such as Sandor Végh and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

In almost forty years of activity, the quartet has made over thirty recordings, many of which have won major discographic prizes, such as the Gramophone Award, the Diapason d'Or, the Choc du Monde de la Musique, and a nomination for a Grammy Award. The Carmina Quartet combines the experience of its two founding members, first violinist Matthias Enderle and viola player Wendy Champney, with the enthusiasm of Agata Lazarczyk and Chiara Enderle Samatanga, both born in 1992. Cellist Chiara Enderle Samatanga is the daughter of Matthias Enderle and Wendy Champney and has known the Carmina Quartet since accompanying her parents on tour.
