Frank Martin
Trio on Popular Irish Folk Tunes

The LuganoMusica Ensemble will open its second concert with a piece by Thomas Adès, one of the most innovative and appreciated composers of the youngest generation. This suite of exquisite studies for violin, clarinet, cello and piano distils - in a purely instrumental form - the essence of the musician's surprising work The Tempest. Tierkreis is a unique composition in Karlheinz Stockhausen's universe: despite the simplicity of its approach, this work remains visionary and radical. Frank Martin is one of the most illustrious Swiss composers of the past century. His Trio on Popular Irish Folk Tunes reflects central aspects of his style, at the cross of late German Romanticism, French Impressionism, Stravinsky or Hindemith's Neoclassicism and Schoenberg's dodecaphonism.
