The Mozart Orchestra is a young but unique enterprise in Europe. Abbado, who founded the ensemble in 2004, chose to give each musician complete expressive freedom, trusting the exceptional nature of the result. Thus, he created a harmony that all Mozart members recount, an almost family-like experience and a project deeply shared by artists who have grown up together. “It is a fresh, young, happy and wonderful way of making music: tremendous energy, combined with great skills, and twinkling in everyone's eyes that makes everything very special. Each time we look forward to playing together again,” says first violinist Raphael Christ.

“The Mozart Orchestra is unique because all the musicians share the same happiness and desire to make music together, and there are not many orchestras that can say the same,” adds first oboe Lucas Macías Navarro. Thanks to the intense participation of its musicians, the Mozart Orchestra has always been characterised by a chamber music spirit, performing in varying formations and tackling a vast repertoire that reaches out to chamber concerts in duo and trio. This is how the LAC audience got to know the ensemble through the now annual events within the LuganoMusica season, including symphonic concerts and a chamber music offer organised by the musicians. The Mozart Orchestra inaugurated the 2021 season and is awaited each spring for the Easter concert.

After Claudio Abbado's death and the experience with the great Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink, the Orchestra has been led since 2019 by Daniele Gatti, one of the most appreciated Italian conductors on the international scene. In his words, “this orchestra creates a privileged, I would say unique, relationship with its conductor. It is very stimulating to know that a group of musicians of this level share the desire to dedicate themselves to this special project with me. I am happy to be part of it”.
