Since its foundation in 1942, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne has developed a strong artistic and sound identity. These qualities were shaped by conductors who made extended stays in the Swiss city by the lake, often for more than ten years – as in the case of Victor Desarzens, Armin Jordan and Christian Zacharias.

In a chamber orchestra such as the Lausanne ensemble, powerful relationships are established between the forty musicians representing over sixteen nationalities. They approach the symphonic repertoire with the lucidity, freedom of expression and mutual listening typical of a chamber ensemble. Famous pianists such as Clara Haskil, Alfred Cortot, Edwin Fischer, Marta Argerich and Daniel Barenboim, and conductors including Ernest Ansermet and Paul Hindemith have collaborated with this Swiss orchestra.

The orchestra's most recent “conquest” is Renaud Capuçon, appointed Artistic Director as of the 2021-2022 season. The violinist turned conductor shares an innate musical refinement and an international career with his cellist brother Gautier Capuçon – Artist in residence in the previous LuganoMusica seasons. His appointment in Lausanne promises to be long-lasting, not least because Capuçon has wanted to bind himself to the city over the past years. Since 2014, he has been teaching at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne. In 2017, he founded the Lausanne Soloists, an ensemble that gathers the school's best former students. We welcome on stage a new discovery in the field of conducting.
