Luca Pianca makes a much-expected return to Lugano with his Ensemble Claudiana.
Lute specialist Luca Pianca is a Swiss and, more particularly, Luganese excellence; he was awarded the Swiss Music Prize in 2018. He is co-founder of Giardino Armonico, has worked with singers such as Christoph Prégardien, Eva Mei, and Georg Nigl and has recorded over seventy CDs, including the complete Bach and Vivaldi lute music. His study of the Baroque repertoire and historical instruments is an ongoing search to render the ideal sound he has in mind. His trusted luthier Luc Breton accompanies this quest by making the instruments Pianca requires.
The Ensemble Claudiana was created in 2008 for Pianca's project to perform all of Bach's Cantatas at the Vienna Konzerthaus. Their focus is on the music of Bach and Monteverdi, which possesses the full-bodied sound, contrasts and imitations typical of the Baroque period.
